 About the Society

The Mahatma Gandhi Mission trust popularly known as MGM was established on 20 December 1982 in India with the aim to provide quality education to future doctors and medical scientists and by advancing knowledge in all fields of health sciences through meaningful and ethical research.  Trust has focused to expand the academic and health care services to all. The MGM trust, which is the parent body of the MGM Institute of Health Sciences (MGMIHS), has recognized the need for promoting, medical education in the country. It has been the endeavor that no financially constrained or underprivileged person is deprived of health care support. To match the growing demands of health care to the society, the tertiary health care facility to the common man will have to be improved and made affordable. To accomplish its vision, two medical colleges were established in Maharashtra, one in Navi Mumbai in August 1989 and another in Aurangabad in January 1990.

MGMIHS was conferred Deemed to be University status under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource & Development, Govt. of India on 30th August 2006 with two of its constituent colleges. Today, the University offers professional degree courses MBBS, MD., MS., PG Diploma, M.Sc., Ph.D. and Super Speciality Courses (DM & MCh) that are recognized by respective councils and follow the UGC guidelines. As per the norms of UGC, MGMIHS is registered under Society under Societies Registration Act, 1860 as well as under Bombay Public Charitable Trust Act.

The MGMIHS is among the preeminent universities of the country and strives to provide and sustain high quality in teaching and research and patient care. The education system including the curriculum and practical training is so designed that tomorrow’s doctors and medical scientists possess well developed clinical skills and attitudes necessary to provide the best evidence-based patient care to each and every individual and particularly to those from a lower socioeconomic status following ethical practices. Clinical training is imparted in the University’s own hospitals including rural hospitals.
